Musk announced the reinstatements after he posted a cryptic message. The news was accompanied by a confusing explanation of how content moderation will work on the micro-blogging site. He said that the new policy was not freedom of reach. Negative and hate messages will be demonetized so no ads or other revenue can be made from them.

There is a mis spelling of Kathy Griffin's name.

A decision has not yet been made about whether or not to allow Donald Trump to return to the site. He said he wouldn't allow Alex Jones to return to the platform. Like all of Musk's promises, we don't know how long it will last.

What happened to Musk's plan to tackle reinstatings? Less than a month ago, the world's richest man said that he would lead the creation of a "content moderation council". There will be no major content decisions before the council convenes.

Freedom Friday didn't have a council in place. It is possible that there isn't enough staff left to write one. More engineers and executives have left the company since the initial layoffs were made.

Questions about Friday's announcement were asked by Gizmodo.

  • What is a “negative tweet?”
  • Who decides that?
  • Who (or what algorithm) will be monitoring for these “negative tweets” to “deboost” them—and how?
  • Will there be an official shadowban council?

Gizmodo isn't sure how singletweet can bedemonetized. It's not possible to make money off of individual tweets, but rather paid posts by advertisers. Unless Musk is talking about banning offensive ads, this is just a word salad.

We don't expect to get a response from the press account after reaching out with all of the questions. The purchase of the company by Musk has not been responded to by the social media company. The press contacts from other companies run by Musk are difficult to reach.
