Video suggests that multiple airport fire service vehicles crossed the active runway 16 immediately before the accelerating A320. One truck collided with the right engine+ wing resulting in a fire and a gear collapse. pic.twitter.com/1hvom3HYSg

How far LA2213 got down the runway

The incident involved an airport fire truck and multiple fire rescue vehicles were dispatched to the scene.

The plane was on fire when it came to a halt.

Passengers posted to social media after being evacuated. The right engine appears to be separated from the rest of the plane based on a picture taken by a passenger.

All passengers and crew got off the plane alive. There may be some injuries among passengers.

There are two deaths and one injury among people who were in the fire truck. I feel bad for their families.

I’m curious what the cause of this was

This should be one of the easiest accidents to figure out. The LATAM A320neo wasn't allowed to be on the runway at the same time as the vehicle. The question is if the LATAM A320neo had permission to be on the runway or not.

It looks like a fire truck was hit. The need for clearance to cross a runway doesn't change even if there is an emergency.

Why did the pilots and driver not see each other? I can understand how the pilots wouldn't have seen this, as we're talking about a small vehicle and they're focused on other things.

How did those in the vehicle not see the plane coming? The driver of the car didn't look in either direction as he drove onto the runway.

Bottom line

The A320neo of LATAM was involved in a collision with a fire truck on its way to the airport. The two people who died and the one who was injured were in the vehicle.
