Tom Halliwell scored a late try to lead England to a famous Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup final victory.

The player who was voted player of the match crashed over in the first minute.

He scored his second try of the game.

It was enough to make up for the losses in the last two finals.

After 55 minutes, Tom Coyd's side had taken a 22-14 lead.

The kicking ofNico Clausells, who broke English hearts five years ago with his late match-winning try, helped keep them in the game.

  • Who's who on the England team?

England won their second World Cup title when Halliwell squeezed his way through the French defence.

The final was never going to be a free-flowing affair and there was more defensive strength shown by both teams.

Lionel Alazard scored the first try of the game after an early Lionel Alazard penalty gave France the lead.

After England tried to get back into the game, Halliwell was able to score a try.

Jack Brown came into the game with coach Coyd hoping he could make an impact in front of a world record crowd.

France extended their lead through Mostefa Abassi's 17th try of the tournament which was converted by Clausells.

Just before the break, Brown got his reward, weaving his way through with Collins adding the extras.

Lewis King and Brown put England in charge in the second half.

The Clausells brothers scored two goals in the final quarter to give France the lead, but it was not enough.

Collins held his nerve with a penalty before Clausells came back to make it interesting.

England wanted to lift the trophy.
