Harrison Ford, who reprises his role as Indy, told Empire that he came back because he wanted more closure for his character. Ford wanted to see a movie where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey. I could extend the character if a script came along.
The focus of the movie would be to bring Indy to the end, according to James Mangold. Mangold wants to make a movie about a hero at sunset. I brought up issues that were not addressed in the material being developed at the time. The material wasn't about the jokes at all. You should fly towards your greatest liability. You end up getting arrows the whole way if you pretend it isn't there.
The quotes don't explain the story at all. Who is playing, what Indy is going after, and so on. It will work in the end according to Ford. It is full of adventure, full of laughter, and full of real emotion. Ford told Empire that it was complex and deceptive. He says that the shooting of it was difficult. I'm very pleased with the film we have.
