Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, told employees in a memo on Thursday that the company would be cutting jobs in the early part of the next decade. There will be more role reductions as leaders continue to make adjustments according to Jassy.

There will be reductions in our Stores and People, Experience, and Technology organizations. Amazon will let you know who will be impacted by the future cuts.

Jassy said Thursday that the company has extended voluntary buyouts to some of its HR organization, after it was reported that some staffers in the organization would be laid off. According to Jassy, the approach of layoffs communicated internally before top executives share information publicly will continue.

We will communicate directly with impacted employees before making broad public or internal announcements. According to Jassy, the company will try to find roles for impacted people internally if it can't.

According to the New York Times, Amazon was planning to lay off thousands of employees. Jassy didn't say how many people will be affected or how many have already. A request for comment was not replied to by Amazon.
