Reports of mass resignations at the troubled social media company led to the sudden shutting down of the offices.
All of the company's buildings were temporarily closed, and badges would be revoked for the time being, according to the first report. Insider said that employees were being told to leave the offices, which will reopen on Monday.
The reason for the sudden closing was that employees would sabotage the company and that they were working out who would have their access revoked.
In order to prevent departing employees from taking actions that are not in the best interests of the company, a similar action was taken earlier this month. The email stated that the offices would be temporarily closed.
All badges will be suspended and our offices will be temporarily closed in order to make sure the safety of our employees and systems. "If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home, please continue to comply with company policy by refraining from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere."
In his first company-wide email since taking over, Musk told employees they would no longer be allowed to work remotely. Employees can still work from home with their manager's approval, according to Musk.
Reports said mass resignations at the company. Less than half of the 4,000 employees at the company decided to stay on Thursday, despite Musk's call for employees to commit to "Twitter 2.0" or be part of voluntary layoffs.
Insider asked if they would respond to his request for comment.
