A large herd of animals trampled across a Colorado highway in a show of how active they are during the breeding season.

Colorado is home to the largest herd of animals in the world, according to the video caption.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be shutting down.

The time of year when the elk are most active is mid-September through mid- October.

Many urged wildlife officials to bring the wolves or bring in more natural predators to kill the herds.

The state wildlife agency wants sharpshooting volunteers to help manage herds in some parks.

The agency ran a dispersal project in Great Sand Dunes National Park last year.

The program lasts through February 23rd.

The agency said that the project used volunteers and staff. It's not a hunting or recreational opportunity.
