McConnell is a man who has many things. The Respect for Marriage Act protects some rights for same-sex and interracial married couples despite McConnell's interracial marriage. Elaine Chao is the first Asian American woman to serve in a presidential cabinet when she was in the Trump administration.
The Senate voted to end debate on the Respect for Marriage Act by a majority of 62-37, with 12 Republicans voting against it. If the Supreme Court overturns Obergefell or Loving, it will require states to respect same-sex and interracial marriages that are currently legal. Clarence Thomas, a justice on the Supreme Court, was in agreement with the court's decision to overturn the abortion law.

McConnell is not the first Republican to vote against his own interests out of spite. It is the first time that an Asian-American woman has held the position of transportation secretary. She moved to the U.S. as a child. She is McConnell's spouse.
The Mormon Church backed the bill because it gave faith-based groups the freedom to discriminate against same-sex couples. If protecting the legal status of his own marriage weren't enough for McConnell to vote yes on the bill, I figured the right to discriminate against the LGBTQ people might convince him to back the bill. That didn't happen.
The bill's symbolic support for same-sex couples was too much for McConnell. Maybe the recent sermon about aliens opposing same-sex marriage got to him.
McConnell retained his title as Minority Leader because of his extreme stance against same-sex and interracial marriage.
