According to the ranking member of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform, the investigation of the Washington Commanders will end when the Republicans take over.

After The Associated Press and other outlets projected that Republicans would have a narrow majority in the House for the 118th Congress, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky issued a statement saying it was over.

The investigation has been led by Democrats since last year. If the Republicans win control of the House, it will stop.

The team was happy with the decision to drop the case.

The investigation into a private company has been characterized by sitting members of Congress as a "farce" and "an abuse of power" by the attorneys.

The improvement in the Commanders' workplace has been an impediment to further progress because of the congressional investigation.

There were no updates on the investigation, which included virtual testimony from the NFL commissioner in a public hearing and a private virtual deposition by the Washington owner that lasted for more than 10 hours.

Brownlee and Nash said in their statement that the Committee has leaked witness testimony while hiding evidence.

Mary Jo White, a former U.S. Attorney, was leading the league's review of the team. The District of Columbia filed a consumer protection lawsuit against the team and the league for allegedly lying about the first inquiry into workplace misconduct that ended in July 2021.
