When a man started shooting passengers on a charter bus returning to the University of Virginia from a class field trip, the running back thought it was balloons.
The driver of the bus was screamed at by Hollins to stop. After running off the bus, he realized no one was following them.
According to his mother, Hollins told the two students to keep running, but he went back to the bus to help other people.
The classmates said he saved their lives. He was the first to leave the bus and told two of his friends to run.
"He told me he went back." I needed to take action. I was going to hit the windows because nobody else was coming off the bus. He was going to hit the windows. They were going to be told to get off the bus.
Mike said that Jones pointed a gun at him when he got on the bus. Jones shot Mike in the back as he ran.
He remembers trying to turn, but he saw him lift the gun. He ran because his back got hot.
Mike pulled up his shirt as he ran towards the parking garage. A bullet was found in his stomach.
If he ran too far into the parking garage, nobody would find him and he would die.
A medical student who was on the bus helped Mike stop.
The football players were shot and killed. Marlee Morgan is thought to be in good condition after being shot.
If he hadn't gone back towards the bus, he might not have been shot. His mother is not surprised by his actions.
"Didn't surprise me." I would be surprised if he did not. It didn't surprise me that Mike is that way.
Jones has been charged with three counts of second degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, as well as additional gun related charges. He is in a jail in Virginia.
A passenger on the bus told police that Jones wasn't shooting at random. The witness told police that Jones shot and killed the man while he slept.
She forgives Jones for what he did.
She said she already had. I needed to heal so I could help my son. I don't have anything else to do. I have to help my baby first.
Mike had two surgeries this week to explore damage to his organs. He walked for the first time on Wednesday after being removed from a ventilator.
"He's doing well," saidBrenda. He is having a difficult time. He doesn't know why he's here, why he was shot, and why he's not with his friends.
Doctors wanted her to wait until after Mike's second surgery to tell him that he had died. When Mike was intubated, he asked his teammates to write their names on a board.
"We had to tell him that we didn't know anything," she said. The severity of the situation made it confidential and we couldn't get any information. He probably didn't believe us. He had a look on his face as he threw his hands up. Do you mean what you say?
We had to keep his vitals where they were because he had surgery. They did not want any problems.
After Mike recovered from his second surgery, his family told him that his teammates had left.
"He was waiting for something to happen," she stated. I heard him say, "Thanks, doc," right after they removed the ventilator. It was great to hear his voice, I hadn't heard him speak before. He asked us where D'Sean was as soon as we entered. He was aware. He looked at my daughter as she stood close to him. She turned her head back and forth. She said that he had left.
It was like Mike's cry came from his soul. It was a cry I had never heard before. It was very large. His tears were so deep. I didn't have anything I could do. I can't hug him because he's hurting. I'm not able to move him. It was like he wasn't part of a group. He was alone and we were there.
They were close to one another. "I don't know how I'm going to survive without him," the boy said, according to the mother.
She told him that he would live for them. You'll live for him.
On the day before the shooting, she saw her son. Mike had 8 carries for 23 yards in Virginia's 37-7 loss to Pittsburgh. After the game she flew back to Baton Rouge.
He talked about how excited he was to go on the field trip.
Mike wished they could have driven their own car to see the play, but he was encouraged to ride the bus byPerry. The students were looking forward to meeting other students on the trip.
Mike didn't know Jones, who was still at the University of Virginia, according to the woman. Mike said he and Jones talked to each other, "What's up?", on the trip.
The phone rang around 10:30 pm. She recognized a number from the area code and was worried. She was told by the doctor that Mike had been shot. His father and mother are both from Virginia. Early Monday morning, they were able to get to the medical center.
"I was really sad," he said. I walked into his room and saw his feet were immobile. I heard the machines and saw him lying there. The man was on a breathing machine. The worst thing I've ever seen.
Mike will need months of rehabilitation, according to doctors. He will not be able to lift anything for a while. He wants to return to the field. He didn't play in any games during the interrupted season in 2020 because he had at least one season of eligibility left.
"We believe in the report of the Almighty," said the woman. The doctors are able to give us information. He is driven. He's going to be on the field. He is going to carry a ball. He will return. He knows that he is here for a reason. For a reason, he was spared.
Mike is going to graduate with a degree in December. He has to write four papers to get his degree. He wants to walk across the stage with his friends.
It would be a blessing. It's a blessing that he's walking with his brothers on his back because he's missing them. He will walk if he gets a degree.
