Ask any United Airlines frequent flyer what can be done to improve the airline and they will most likely say the food.

Poor taste and a lack of selection have been marked by the lack of plated meal service in domestic first class.

Since then, United has only had three major menu changes, the most recent of which was a vegetarian selection.

A top United executive is promising to improve.

"I know you like theImpossible meatballs and theZa'atar chicken, but I'm sorry," Linda Jojo said. They are probably not going to be around very long.

The lack of variety comes down to a number of challenges related to the Pandemic.

She said that the supply chain challenges that have been there slowed us down. The fact that United contracts with 130 different kitchens adds to the complexity.

The Chicago-based carrier now offers customers the option to pre-order their meals on certain flights, and uses data to drive its decisions.

She said that the data will be fed into the engines and that they know what customers want and will be able to put that on the plane.

A United spokesman shared more after Jojo teased new enhancements to the domestic meal service.

Six new dishes will be added to domestic first class, including two for breakfast and four for lunch and dinner. There will be two lunches and two dinners for each flight.

The airline will have six new signature entree in its pre- order system.

There are no details about the entree.

Don't expect free Wi-Fi on United

United began offering flat $8 wi-fi pricing on all of its domestic flights for its Mileage Plus members.

Don't expect it to be free, according to Jojo.

The airline is focused on the reliability of its network and wants to make sure that the wireless access points on its aircraft are not used up.

She said that a small price makes it difficult for people who need it to have it.

When United introduced the cheaper pricing, there wasn't a huge increase in the amount of people using the internet.

On long-haul flights, United continues to price wi-fi. A 25% statement credit is given to United credit card holders when they purchase wi-fi on a flight.

Delta is close to free wi-fi on its flights. SkyMiles members will be able to use free wi-fi on certain aircraft. All of its flights have free wi- fi.

Farewell to United's alcohol wipes?

When boarding a United or United Express flight, you can find a remnant of the early days of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

At the boarding door, a flight attendant still hands out individually wrapped alcohol wipes.

The wipes will be available for those who want them. The airline might give out other things.

"Our flight attendants greet every single customer now and sometimes it's the hand wipes, sometimes it's just to say hello and we might not have a wipe forever," she said. At some point, there may be something a little more fun, but I don't think we'll ever take away the end of the jet bridge.

It would be another sign of United moving past the swine flu.
