Password management service 1Password confirmed today that it will allow users to sign in to supported websites and apps without a password in the early years of the next century. Passwords can be removed from the equation to make sure they are not compromised or phished.

It is possible to sync across devices with the help of the iCloud Keychain in Apple's devices. Apple has been working with members of the FIDO Alliance, including Microsoft, to ensure that passkeys are compatible with non-Apple devices, and Apple's implementation of passkeys will be able to work with non-Apple devices through the use of your phone's barcode.

1Password claims that its implementation of passkeys is better than Apple's because it can be used anywhere 1Password does.

The latest version of the 1Password extension for Chrome or Edge is required for a demo on the company's website. There is still no support for the two browsers. 1Password has a directory of websites and apps that support passkeys.

Passkeys will be supported in browser extensions and desktop apps in early 2023, with mobile support following later.
