Following in the footsteps of the EU, which recently passed a similar law, India is making progress on a government proposal that would enforce a standard charge for all devices.
In a government press release, India's Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution secretary, Rohit Kumar Singh, said different government and private agencies held a meeting and a broad consensus emerged among stakeholders. It was decided that a different charging port would be used for feature phones.
The government is moving forward with its proposal after initially saying it would explore the possibility of such a law.
The European Union recently passed a law that requires all consumer electronic devices to be compatible with the universal serial bus by the year 2024. In a recent event, Apple's vice president of worldwide marketing said that Apple would have to comply with the EU's new law in order for the iPhone to be compatible with theusb-c standard.
The analyst believes that the higher-end models of the iPhone lineup will benefit from faster transfer speeds than the lower-end models.
