Toyota is beefing up the fuel-sipping hybrid to appeal to a wider range of car shoppers in a crowded market.

The car dominated the segment when it was first introduced in the U.S. The world's first production hybrid car has lost ground to new models as it enters its fifth generation.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday evening, the Toyota Prius was introduced with a low-slung silhouette to broaden its appeal to sports car buyers. According to Toyota, the new hybrid can deliver the same amount of mileage as the previous one, at 57 miles per gallon.

The TOYOTA PRESENCE will be in use in the year 2023.

The new model has a lower roofline and wider rear for a more athletic look.

The standard, front-wheel-drive model will be able to produce more power. The new hybrid can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds, slower than a sports car but still a 26% improvement over the previous one.

The new hybrid has a larger engine and a smaller battery that give it 15% more power than the previous generation.

Toyota has a plug-in hybrid.

The plug-in hybrid version of the Prius Prime has a 50% increase in its electric range.

It is thought that the new Prime will be able to travel 37 miles on a fully charged battery before drawing power from its gas engine.

The pricing and delivery dates for the hybrid will be announced later this year by Toyota.
