The American League Cy Young Award winner was unanimously voted on by the members of the league.
Verlander defeated Cease and Manoah of the Blue Jay's.
This is the second time in history that both Cy Young winners were unanimous. The award began to be given out to both leagues in 1968.
After two years of recovery from Tommy John surgery, Verlander won his third Cy Young Award. On the last day of the regular season, Verlander becomes the fourth oldest winner of the Cy Young.
The Astros won the World Series with a deep pitching staff that helped secure a championship.
He made a minimum of 25 starts in his age-39 or older season since earned runs became an official stat in 1913. Verlander is the second oldest pitcher to lead the majors in earned run average. He had a 1.75 earned run average, which was the lowest by an American League pitcher in a full season.
Verlander, who is now a free agent, completed at least sixinnings in 22 of his 28 starts, and he struck out 185 batters and walked only 29 in the regular season. In the World Series, he overcame shaky command and an up-and-down performance in the playoffs to give up one run in 5 1/3 frames, a major step towards his second title.

Eleven players have won the Cy Young Award three or more times. Even though they are eligible, the only one who is not in the Hall of Fame is Roger.
Near the end of his career, Verlander had major elbow surgery. He was the second non-rookie to make at least 15 starts and post a sub-2.00 earned run average despite not pitching in the majors the previous season. Fred Toney pitched for the Cincinnati Reds in 1915 and had a 1.58 earned run average.
Cease was 14-8 with a 2.20 earned run average. Manoah went 16-7 with a 2.24 earned run average, which was the second- lowest in Blue Jays history.
Verlander was once again at the top of his class.
