If you don't commit to an "EXTREMELY hardcore" approach to work by Thursday, you'll be fired.

To succeed in an increasingly competitive world we will need to be very hardcore. Working long hours at high intensity will be the result. In the all-staff email, Musk said that only exceptional performance would be a passing grade.

"A fork in the road" was the subject of the email.

"If you are sure that you want to be a part of the newTwitter, please click yes on the link below," Musk wrote. Three months of separation will be given to anyone who hasn't done so by tomorrow. Thank you for your efforts to makeTwitter successful.

The email was reported by The Washington Post and CNN. CNN reporter Donie O' Sullivan posted a picture of the email on the social networking site.

Musk: Twitter to be “more engineering-driven”

The email said that under Musk's ownership, it would be much more engineering driven. Design and product management will still be important, but the majority of the team will be written code. I think it makes sense that this is the company's core business.

Roughly 3,700 employees were laid off by Musk in the past. 60 days' advance written notice is required by the federal and state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification laws.

Musk banned employees from working from anywhere despite previous management allowing them to. Some employees that were critical of Musk were fired.
