John Carew was sentenced to 14 months in prison for tax evasion.
The 43-year-old failed to report over two decades worth of income and assets.
Carew thought he didn't need to pay taxes there.
He was able to pay tax because he was in Norway for more than 183 days a year.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of over $50,000.
Carew said that he was following the advice of his agent.
He acted negligently, but not with intent, according to his lawyer.
Carew made it clear that he wanted to set things right.
Carew will read through the ruling before making a decision.
He made nearly 500 appearances for nine clubs during his career, which ended in 2012
He scored 24 goals while playing for Norway.
