  • Donald Trump is the only Republican who can lose, according to Mick Mulvaney.

  • On Tuesday, the former president made his candidacy official.

  • Mulvaney believes that he is too divisive to win the election.

Mick Mulvaney, who was the acting White House chief of staff, said that Donald Trump is the only Republican who can lose the election.

Mulvaney talked about Trump's announcement in an interview with CNN. Anderson Cooper asked if the announcement was good news for the Republicans.

I do not. Mulvaney thinks that Trump is likely to be the Republican nominee because he is the only one who can lose.

Mulvaney said that Trump could be defeated in a head-to-head race for the GOP nomination by a popular opponent. Under the Republican primary system, Trump will win the nomination because he will get more votes than any of his competitors.

If Trump is the GOP's candidate, the election won't be about core issues where Biden is vulnerable, such as inflation or education, but will be a referendum on Trump's popularity, which he will lose.

The same thing happened in 2020 and it will happen again. People did not vote for Joe Biden. The people voted against Donald Trump. It was a vote on him.

Some Republicans blame the former president for the party's poor showing in the election.

Republicans failed to take control of the Senate and won only a narrow House majority because of Trump's central role in those elections.

After the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, Mulvaney resigned from his position as an envoy to Northern Ireland.

He is an analyst for media organizations and he has been critical of Trump's post-presidential bid.
