We don't know what they're doing. None have gone through a rigorous trial. Barzilai is concerned that we don't know what they are doing.

Evelyne Bischof was at the meeting and shared some of the same concerns. After graduating from medical school, Bischof specialized in cancer and internal medicine. She wants to extend the healthspan of her patients in the US and China.

People who have taken longevity supplements have become sick. She says that they came to her in their 30's because they jumped on a high dose of supplements and it was not good for them. The biological age of some people went up after they took supplements. Even though they are supplements, they could cause harm. Taking supplements as a self-experiment isn't advisable.

The effects of a supplement might be different over time. Depending on whether it is day or night, summer or winter, or as we age, our bodies might respond differently.

Bischof is experimenting with longevity treatments She said it made sense for her. It is also Barzilai. He says he will have blood tests before and after he tries something new. He wants to maximize his health, so he is experimenting with things that he doesn't want to discuss. I'm doing it with a doctor.

The longevity doctor will see you now

Bischof is one of a small number of doctors who specialize in longevity medicine. Some of her patients are older. She sees fit people in their 40s who want tooptimize their performance, as well as older people who have more health concerns. Bischof performs a number of tests on her patients, and takes a detailed look at their health records, blood results, body scans, and even genetic tests to get an idea of their health.

She uses biological clocks, tests that measure a biological trait and use it to estimate a person's age, rather than their chronological age. Bischof tries to make sense of all of the data and come up with a recommendation for each patient.

Bischof says that it isn't a case of typing all the data into a program. She says there is no proper way to tell her what to do with a patient. It is in my head.
