Former President Donald Trump announces 2024 presidential run

In a speech Tuesday night, Donald Trump said he was running for president in four years.

The nation is in decline. In a speech at his Florida private club, Trump said that the nation is a failure for millions of Americans. I will make sure that Joe Biden doesn't get any more time.

He established a new campaign committee after declaring himself a candidate for the presidency on Tuesday night.

"This campaign will be about issues, vision and success, and we will not stop, we will not quit, until we achieve the highest goals and made our country greater than it has ever been before."

By launching his campaign now, just a week after Republicans lost key races, Trump was rejecting the advice of current and former advisers who had cautioned him against declaring himself a candidate for president.

The filing with the F.E.C. created the Donald J. Trump for President of the United States, and officially launched the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

With polls showing the former president's support among Republican voters averaging more than 20 percentage points over his closest rival, Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, Trump was the favorite to win the GOP nomination.

On a day when Democrats won most of the major Senate and governors' races, Republicans were given a boost by the reelection of Ron DeSantis.

Some of the early, post- election polling shows that Ron DeSantis is in front of Trump.

According to reports, the Florida governor met with donors and began assembling his own presidential campaign.

In his victory speech, he promised to fight.

Attorney General Garland will have to decide if he should appoint a special counsel to take over the daily management of the Trump investigations now that Trump is a political opponent. This could help create even more distance between Biden appointees like Garland in the Justice Department and any decisions about charging Trump with a crime.

No decisions have been made regarding the appointment of a special counsel.

The White House doesn't want to suggest that the investigation and potential prosecution of the president's chief rival is politically motivated, or that it is designed to damage Trump's bid for the presidency.

Regardless of Trump's candidacy, the New York and Georgia state investigations into him will likely continue.

If Trump wins the Republican nomination, he will face Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Plans for Biden's reelection campaign have been in the works for some time.

Biden was accused of handling the economy by Trump. Two years have passed since the Biden administration took office. He said that the building had been destroyed.

It would be great news for the Democrats if there was a long primary between the two men.

Biden is fond of the idea. The president told the reporter that it would be fun to see them take on each other.

The leader of the Republican party is Trump. The Washington Post reported this week that Trump plans to build a campaign team that looks and feels more like the skeleton crew of loyal aides who ran his successful 2016 run.

Trump enters the race with more than $60 million in cash held by his leadership political action committee, Save America, and a massive fundraising operation that vacuums up small-dollar donations at an unprecedented rate.

The Federal Election Commission doesn't allow Trump to directly finance his campaign.

In October, Trump transferred $20 million from the leadership PAC to Make America Great Again Inc.

The lion's share of the money could eventually find its way to Trump's presidential bid, circumventing rules that prevented Save America, but not MAGA Inc, from spending money on Trump's run for president

During a series of rallies this summer and fall, Trump has given a preview of his 2024 stump speech, which is similar to the one he gave in the 2016 campaign.

His insistence that he won the 2020 presidential election, which he lost, is a central part of his 2024 political persona, and his frequent arena rallies are filled with rants against what he wrongly claims was voter fraud in the last presidential election.

There are questions about how Trump's legal problems will affect him. His family real estate and hotel empire is facing a fraud lawsuit that could cripple its operations and slash his personal wealth.

Georgia is investigating Trump's attempts to change the results of the 2020 election.

The FBI is investigating whether Trump mishandled state secrets when he removed thousands of government documents from the White House in the last days of his presidency.

The Justice Department is looking into Trump's role in a massive effort to overturn the 2020 election.

Trump spent weeks trying to find a way to keep his job. The attack on the U.S. Capitol was the culmination of his efforts.
