The first-year Virginia football coach knows that his team is facing a lot of unknowns.
Three of his players were shot and killed and two others were wounded on a charter bus after students returned from a field trip in D.C.
It feels like it's a nightmare to be honest with you, and I'm ready for someone to wake me up and say that this didn't happen.
Four people were killed, including a junior receiver, a junior defensive end and a junior football player. The running back was shot in the back and is in the hospital.
"You prepare for this job, but you don't have a chapter on something like this," said Elliott, who was an offensive coach at the University of South Carolina. I'm trying to figure out how to be strong for these guys.

The suspected shooter is a former football player for the University of Virginia.
On Tuesday, Jones was transferred from a facility in Henrico County, Virginia, where he had been arrested the day before, to the regional jail in Charlottesville. He was being held without bail because of the murder and firearm use charges. Jones has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding and additional gun related charges.
Jones is due in court at 9 a.m.
According to his family, he is one of the victims.

Hollins had emergency surgery on Sunday night to remove a bullet from his stomach. The doctors were encouraged by what they found after the second surgery.
After the second surgery, the patient was removed from a breathing machine.
A female and a non-athletes who are considered to be in good condition are the two students who survived.
Jones was a walk on member of the football team. He was unable to practice or play in a game due to a lower-body injury. Mendenhall said that Jones left the team.
Mendenhall didn't remember Jones having any issues with the team in his short time there.
It doesn't make sense to me. He was a UVA student. I have no idea about it. I don't understand it because he was a teammate of these guys and there were other players in the same class. His time with the program was short and he didn't get much insight from me. Discipline or behavior issues were never brought to my desk. He wasn't integrated into the program because he was hurt the entire time.
Although classes are expected to resume Wednesday, undergrads won't have to take exams before Thanksgiving.
