Commanders' Ron Rivera Undecided on Heinicke, Wentz at QB After Eagles Upset

The Washington Commanders ended the Philadelphia Eagles' perfect season with a 32-21 win at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, and it was Taylor Heinicke who led the way.

There is a decision to be made by the Commanders. Are they going to stick with him? Heinicke has been the backup for most of the season. Rivera isn't quite sure.

When making his choice, the veteran head coach told reporters he would put the team above all else.

It has to be that you look at what is best for the team. "You treat everyone the same, but you treat everyone according to the team." The decision will be based on the team. I will commit to whoever starts. They should not be looking over their shoulder.

Heinicke had a good game against the Eagles, completing 17 of 29 passes. He got Washington the victory, something he hasn't been able to do this season.

Since suffering a broken finger in a Week 6 game against the Chicago Bears, the Commanders have been without their starting quarterback.

The 29-year-old struggled through the first six games of the season, completing 62.1 percent of his passes for 1,487 yards and 10 touchdown against six turnovers. The Commanders went 0-6 with Wentz as their starting quarterback.

In the four games that Heinicke has been the starter, the Commanders are 2-2 and evened their record at 5-5. The 29-year-old has completed over sixty percent of his passes. He ran for 60 yards and scored a touchdown.

Heinicke told reporters after Monday's game that he won't be disappointed if Rivera sticks with Wentz.

I'll be prepared to go in if my number is called. Let's leave whatever decision they make. It's great if I'm going to back up Carson next week. I will help him in any way I can to get ready for that game. Let's just win. Let's keep winning, no matter what.

The Commanders are on the fringes of the playoffs. The Houston Texans are 1-8.
