According to an investigation from an animal rights watchdog group, HelloFresh may have used monkey labor to source coconut milk.

The trendy delivery company was accused of using monkey labor in Thailand in which the animals were chained, whipped, beaten, and forced to spend long hours picking coconuts.

It was more than just a one-off event. In Thailand, coconut milk companies that work with HelloFresh forced the animals to work in extremely dangerous and unsanitary conditions, according to a report by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Widespread

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling for a boycott of all canned coconut milk products in Thailand due to the abuse.

"Monkeys are chained around the neck and forced to toil day in and day out, all for HelloFresh and other companies that lack a conscience," according to a statement from the executive vice president of the organization.

Denial

Hello Fresh denied the accusations of monkey labor in a statement to Yahoo.

"HelloFresh strictly condemns any use of monkey labor in its supply chain and we take a hard position of not procuring from suppliers or selling coconut products which have been found to use monkey labor." All of our suppliers have confirmed to us that they don't engage in these practices.

Along with HelloFresh, the Thai Pure Coconut Company, Edward & Sons Trading Company, and several others have also been linked by the animal rights group.
