Cooper Kupp will have an ankle surgery on Wednesday and be placed on injured reserve, according to Sean McVay.

McVay did not rule out Kupp for the rest of the season, even though he will be out for at least four games. The "tightrope" procedure that will be performed on Kupp can take up to six weeks to recover from, according to McVay.

In the fourth quarter of the Rams' Week 10 loss to the ArizonaCardinals, Kupp injured his ankle trying to catch a pass. After the play, Kupp was helped to the bench by the team's medical staff.

"Obviously you never replace a player like Cooper Kupp, but we have to figure out the best way to accentuate the skill sets of the guys that will be playing."

Entering Week 10, Kupp accounted for 35.7% of the Rams' catches, which is the highest mark by any player in the league. He had 72 catches for a pace of 153 over 17 games. Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints holds the single-season record in the National Football League.

"I think what we've learned more than anything is 'let's just take it a day at a time,'" McVay said. He will get that done tomorrow, so let's see how it goes. Let's make sure that the things that they initially thought were wrong were corrected. What happens when that surgery is done? I don't think you want to pigeonhole yourself into one approach, but you do know that the first step is the surgery and then the appropriate steps will follow after that."

Matthew Stafford is still in the concussion protocol, but the team will get more clarity on his situation later in the day.
