Aaron Lennon in action for England against Brazil in 2013

Lennon quit at the age of 35.

After spending 10 years with Spurs, Lennon went on to spend 10 more years with the club before moving on to other clubs.

He played in two World Cup for England.

"I've finally decided that the time is right to hang my boots up," he said. "Having weighed up my options, I didn't feel any were right for me and my young family."

Lennon left the Clarets when his contract expired this summer after playing for both sides.

He said it was a difficult decision as football has been his life since he was three years old and the last 20 years playing professionally at the very top has been amazing.

Football means a lot to me. I didn't realize how much until I decided to retire.

I'm very excited for this next chapter in my life, and I'm going to spend a lot more time with my family.

I want to give back with all my experience on and off the pitch and will be doing so in the near future."

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
