We all want the RTX 4090, but it's hard to stomach its starting price of $1,599 and its huge power demands. The only other new option for PC gaming this year is the RTX 4080 with 16 gigabytes of VRAM. $400 isn't a huge discount in the world of high-end PC gaming, but it might entice some people. It's faster than the RTX 3080 Ti that launched at the same price earlier this year, and it works with NVIDIA's powerful new upscaling technology. If you can't live without the 4090, the 4080 is a powerful graphics card that will satisfy anyone who wants to play 4K games. If you're stuck with a lower resolution monitor, you should probably wait for the 4070 and 4060 cards. The design of the 4090 and the 4080 are the same. They both have the same pass-through fan design and take up threePCI-e slots. I was expecting it to be a little bigger. The 4080 only requires three 8-pin cables, while the 4090 requires four. The power supplies for both cards are rare at the moment. One of the major advantages of the 4080 is that it has a 320 watt thermal design profile and requires a 750 watt PSU. If you don't already have an 850W power supply, you'll need a new unit and rewiring to upgrade to the 4090 You need to be ready for the rare times when these cards need more juice. The 4090 looks similar to the 4080, but it is a different beast. The base clock speed is 2.21 GHz and the boost speed is 2.51 GHz. The 4090 has slightly higher clock speeds and a larger amount of VRAM than the 4090 Compared to the 3080 Ti, the 4080 is more powerful and has more VRAM. The 3080 Ti has around 500 more CUDA cores, but they are slower and less efficient than the new platform. What do these numbers tell us? The 4090 scored more points in 3DMark's TimeSpy Extreme benchmark. The 4080 is the most capable graphics card we've reviewed. The 3080 Ti's TimeSpy Extreme score was about 50 percent higher than the 3080 Ti's, and it was able to play a game in 4K with all of its settings maxed out. It almost brought a tear to my eye when I saw Cyberpunk 2077. none 3DMark Time Spy Extreme. The port Royal has aRaytracing system. It's up to you to control. It's a blender. I can't help but compare the 4080 to the 4090. The benchmark was almost twice as fast as the 4090's. It hit an average of 40 frames per second in the Port Royal benchmark. The exact market for the 4090 is only seen by the most dedicated gaming fans. Even with ray tracing in demanding games like Control, I never felt like I was being held back by the RTX 4080 It's an option if you're looking for more performance. The thermal performance of the 4080 makes me think there's plenty of room for pushing things harder. It was 10 degrees cooler than the 4090 when I tested it. That's a testament to my office being slightly cooler than usual. If there is a chance you will be able to buy the 4090 for $1,599, is it worth it? Most online retailers sell 4090 cards for more than $2,000. The $1,199 card is a steal with that gulf. Who knows how long it will take you to find the RTX 4080? It is likely to move towards the 4090's higher tag soon. If you pay more than $1,000 for a video card, it's a good idea to look at what the future cards will look like. The question is when, but we are definitely expecting the 4070, 4060 and 4050 cards. What will be done with the $899 4080 graphics card? Is that the 4070? At the entry level, Intel's new Arc GPUs are compelling, while the flagship RDNA 3 will launch below $1,000. I would want a successor to the RTX 3080 Ti to have the same qualities. It is a leap from the previous cards because it is faster and has more features. I'm not saying you should upgrade your 3080 anytime soon, but I wouldn't blame you if you did.
