The Associated Press projected that one of America's most prominent 2020 election deniers will not be in control of the vote in the pivotal swing state of Arizona due to the narrow election victory of Democratkatiehobbs.

The Associated Press called the race for Hobbs, who led by more than 20,000 votes, with 98% of the precincts reporting. The margin of victory for Lake was less than one percentage point.

Democracy is worth waiting for. I would like to thank you in Arizona. I'm so excited to be your next governor.

The secretary of state in Arizona made national headlines when she held the line against right-wing attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

Lake became the subject of intense national media interest after she overtook Hobbs in the polls. Lake is being speculated about as a White House contender.

"If you get a candidate who has the performance skills of a major-market local TV anchor and the philosophy and thinking of Steve Bannon, that's a potent and dangerous combination." Italy is something to look at.

Lake is the seventh Trump-aligned candidate to lose a governor's race this year, following losses in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Maine, New York and Kansas.

The fact that she was considered the most talented of the bunch is another sign that the Republicans blew a big opportunity by nominating firebrands rather than more mainstream conservatives.

This reading is reinforced by the Arizona exit polls. Independents made up 40% of Arizona's electorate, compared to the Democrats and Republicans who made up 32% and 34%, respectively. The president's party loses independents by a lot. Hobbs won by 20 percentage points among self-proclaimed moderates.

In Nevada, Republican Joe Lombardo defeated incumbent Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak in part by winning independent voters, but he refused to call Trump a great president.

Georgia was almost as close to 2020 as Arizona was, and Republican Gov. Brian Kemp won by 8 points. Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, who has held the former president in high regard, easily won reelection.

Despite a very favorable political climate and an Arizona electorate that leans right in midterm years, Lake vastly underperformed the state's current GOP Gov.

As recently as August, Lake was trailing by an average of 7 percentage points.

In the final weeks of the campaign, Lake surged in the polls due to national tailwinds and the fact that she wouldn't face her in a debate. Local and national Democrats wrote off Hobbs as too soft-spoken to win.

It was Lake who came up short.

The state of Arizona has a ban on all abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Universal preschool education, all-day kindergarten, an annual child tax credit and a permanent child care assistance program for working families will be pushed for by her.

If Republicans hold one chamber, they are likely to resist the agenda of the governor.

She made her mark as secretary of state in the area. The narrowest margin of any state in the country was reversed by Arizona Republicans after the 2020 election.

In the state's largest county, not a single challenge was upheld. There was no evidence of fraud in the audits. The GOP audit increased Joe Biden's margin of victory by a large margin.

There is no merit to the claims of voter fraud in Arizona.

Lake went on to say that Biden is president only because the election was corrupt. She promoted a lot of conspiracy theories about 2020. She demanded the decertification of the Arizona result. She said in the lead up to her primary that they were detecting some stealing. There's some cheating going on if we don't win

Next year, Hobbs will be in a position to help shape the state's election rules, and to block any attempts by the GOP Legislature to make voting harder.

She wants to use the National Change of Address database, fund risk-limiting audits for future elections, and make nonpartisan post- election audits mandatory. Same-day registration and in-person early voting will continue through the weekend before the election.
