The Department of Justice said in a court filing that Rudy Giuliani will not be charged with any crimes in the case.
Criminal charges are not forthcoming based on information currently available to the government, according to the DOJ.
The special master who was appointed to look through the evidence was asked to be terminated.
Robert Costello, Giuliani's lawyer, told CNN that the DOJ's decision is wonderful and long-awaited.
The years-old investigation into Giuliani, which kicked into high gear when the FBI raided his home and apartment in April 2021, appeared to focus on the attorney's links toUkraine. At one point, Giuliani acknowledged that he helped push for the firing of the U.S. Ambassador to Kyiv, who was seen as an obstacle to his efforts. According to reports, prosecutors looked into whether Giuliani had pushed to oust Yovanovitch in order to help Ukrainian business moguls who wanted her fired for their own reasons. The New York Times reported in August that Giuliani would not be charged by the DOJ due to a lack of hard evidence.
Giuliani's work for Trump has led to a number of legal threats. A sweeping state investigation in Georgia is looking into Trump and his allies' attempts to overturn the former president's 2020 election loss. A judicial panel suspended his license to practice law in New York last year after he made false and misleading statements about the 2020 election.
