The cruise line will be sailing from the Virginia port for six months in May and October.
The move will more than double the number of cruises on the Carnival Magic out of Norfolk and is a step towards making Norfolk a year-round homeport in the near future.
Carnival and the city of Norfolk will discuss the necessary improvements to the port to support an expansion to year-round operations.
The Half Moone Cruise Center was upgraded so that it could accommodate the Magic, the largest ship that has ever come to Norfolk. The maximum number of passengers accommodated by The Magic is 4,724.
The Magic left from Norfolk in May.
There are four to 10 day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Canada/New England on the Norfolk cruises.
Since 2002, carnival has been sailing from Norfolk.
