Jay Leno says he’s ‘ok’ after he suffers serious burns in car fire

A car fire in Los Angeles has left Jay Leno with serious burn injuries.

I was burned from a gasoline fire. I'm okay. Leno said in a statement to NBC News that he needs a week or two to recover. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday.

A flash fire started in one of Leno's cars while he was working at his Los Angeles garage. He has a large collection of classic and high end cars.

A person close to Leno told NBC News that Leno was taken to the burn center in West Hills after the flames burned the left side of his face, but did not penetrate his eyes or ears. He canceled a performance in Las Vegas on Sunday night and all of his engagements for the rest of the week.

A person close to Leno told NBC that the comedian is ok but has some damage.

The comedian hosted "The Tonight Show" for more than 30 years before handing it over to Jimmy. The first season of CNBC's "Jay Leno's Garage" Leno spoke about being diagnosed with high cholesterol and a heart problem.
