The initial eight-year, $184 million deal he signed ahead of the 2016 season had $22 million left. The Cubs plan to move on at the end of the season, according to the president of baseball operations.

He went on the injured list with a knee injury. He had a.204 average,.279 on- base percentage and one home run in 48 games.

During his time with the Cubs, he had a slash line of.243/.323/.377 with 62 home runs.

The Cubs won their first title in over a century in Game 7 of the 2016 World Series, thanks in part to an inspiring speech by outfielder Heyward.
