According to police and university officials, three members of the University of Virginia football team were killed in a shooting late Sunday night.
Police announced this morning that they had a suspect in custody after a night of searching and a shelter-in-place order. Jones was a running back on the University of Virginia football team in the fall of 2018?
The three players who were killed were a receiver and a defensive end.
According to CNN, Jones made comments about owning a gun, but he did not make any threats at the time. Jones was involved in a criminal incident involving a concealed weapon in February, according to the police chief. Jones was obligated to report the incident to police, but didn't do so.
Two students were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. According to authorities, one is in good condition and the other is in critical condition.
The president of the University of Virginia apologized to the victims and their family.
The shooting took place on a charter bus after students returned from a field trip.
Jones has been charged with three murders.
Ryan said during Monday's news conference that police are investigating as they speak.
It's a sad day for our community. The university community is sad. My prayers are with the victims and their families and with everyone who knew and loved them. I can not imagine what it would be like for a parent to lose a child when I see my own kids.
