The old Republican Party is dead after its poor performance in the election, according to Senator Josh Hawley.

The old party isn't around anymore. It's time for it to be buried. He said to build something new.

The GOP didn't deliver expected returns in many races. The Republicans are projected to barely capture the former and the Democrats will keep control of the latter chamber.

The balance of power in the Senate was solidified after Democratic candidate Catherine Masto announced her victory.

Kevin McCarthy is trying to become speaker of the House, but members of the House Freedom Caucus are trying to stop him. McCarthy is in a precarious position due to the fact that he needs to get 218 votes to assume it.

There has been infighting among Republican leaders. Many Trump-endorsed candidates lost their races or got smaller winning margins than more moderate Republicans, which indicates that voters wanted a departure from the movement. Republicans argue that the outcome was a rejection of Trump's influence in the party. In his reelection victory in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis dominated his opponent among many demographic groups thought to be Democratic, such as Hispanics.

The more populistMAGA wing of the party is being advocated by Hawley. He raised his fist in solidarity with the crowd of Trump supporters outside the Capitol on January 6.

At the time, he told CNN that he didn't regret anything. Thank you for your help with my raising money. It's been great.
