The pressure of a 2-10) start to his tenure as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers got Darvin Ham some words of reassurance from All-Star big man Anthony Davis heading into the game Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets
After the Lakers' 116-103 win over the Nets that snapped a five-game losing streak, Ham said he had a good conversation with Davis. He said that he had your back. Being a first-time head coach, and having a player of that magnitude, just constantly try and do everything you ask him to do, was huge for me.
After missing more than half of the Lakers' games over the past two seasons because of injuries, Davis went missing in the second half of recent losses.
It was on Davis to fix the lack of touches on his own.
He demanded the ball, Ham said. That's the beginning of it.
Before the game, it began for Davis. Davis said he was motivated by seeing Green Bay beat Dallas.
I watched the Packers game and saw Rodgers throw a slant to Allen Lazard and he ran for 40 yards. It got me some motivation before the game when he started flexing and Screaming. Trying to dominate. Don't be submissive. A lot of guys lean on me to try to get the job done, knowing that we had to get this win.
He went 15-for-25 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Davis said that he was trying to get to the paint and score inside. Our guards attack downhill and put it on the rim if you set the screen that way. I have a guard on me, so I have a chance for an offensive rebound and a score.
Davis had more offensive boards than the Nets did.
Patrick Beverley said thatAD played like a monster. Everyone hated him.
The Lakers are hoping to have everyone available for their next game against the Pistons.
James has missed the past two games with a groin strain, while Dennis and Thomas are still recovering from thumb surgery.
The Lakers will have four days off this week without a game to rest, rehabilitate and prepare for the Pistons.
It was our goal to win tonight. We're going to have an off week before Friday's game. "It gives a chance for guys to kind of get away from the game for a couple days and reset and come back with a mentality that we need to win some games in a row."
