Carr apologized for being emotional in the wake of the Las Vegas Raiders 25-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at Allegiant Stadium.
The Colts had an interim coach who had never coached above the high school level in Jeff Saturday, an offensive assistant who had never called plays before, and a veteran quarterback who had been benched earlier in the season.
Carr had to stop several times to collect himself as he addressed what went on in the course of the defeat that dropped Las Vegas' record to 2-7 in a season that began with so much promise a year after going to the playoffs.
Carr loves the Silver and Black and will give it everything he has. I can't speak for everyone but I can tell you what's going on in my head and I'm going to give it all I have.
Carr paused for 12 seconds before he was asked if there was a problem between himself and the play caller.
Carr cried as she said she didn't think so. I really like Josh. I enjoy working with our coaches. They have been successful. More success than I have had before. I apologize.
Carr stopped for eight seconds.
He apologized for being sad. A lot of people try and do things just to practice. Just to sleep at night.
Carr paused for a second.
It pisses me off that that was the result. A lot of men are off. It's difficult to know what some men are doing. They put something in their body to sleep. We can be there for one another. I would like everyone in that room to feel the same way. If I'm being honest, that makes me cringe.
It was the sixth one-score loss of the season for the Raiders, tied for the third-most such losses without a win in one-score games in a season.
The Raiders went 14-7 and made the playoffs under interim coach Rich Bisaccia and general manager Mike Mayock. Mark Davis said the moves were made to take the Raiders to the next level.
After landing an All-Pro receiver in Carr's college teammate Davante Adams, the Raiders have the second-worst record in the league, and Carr looks lost in the offense.
The team captains talked to their teammates in the locker room.
Adams had nine catches for 126 yards and a 48 yard catch and run. What was said in the house will be kept. We had a discussion as a team.
Adams was asked if players were buying into the system.
"I don't think we're going against the grain," Adams said. When it's time, it's just a matter of execution.
"It's hard, knowing what some guys are doing ... just to practice. What they're putting in their body just to sleep at night. Just so we can be there for each other. And I wish everybody in that room felt the same way about this place. And as a leader, that pisses me off, if I'm being honest." Raiders QB Derek Carr
Carr was 0-for-5 in the first quarter, the first time this season that a quarterback had thrown at least five passes in a quarter without a completion. He threw two touchdown passes, but his final attempt, a fade into the left side of the end zone for Adams with 52 seconds to play, was broken up by Gilmore.
He said he wasn't perfect after the game.
Carr said he wouldn't be perfect. The love I have for this place, and the effort that I'll give, will be second to none.
The emotion of just nine years of stuff hit me today. I'm going to come out here and fight and compete next week and that's what I'm going to do.
He was booed by fans when his image was shown after the game.
He said he never took it personally. I've been here the longest.
Don't worry about it because I'm mad at it as well.
He said, "It's starts with me, and that's all I can say."
We're going to have to figure out something different to do to get free from some of these close scores and close games, and make enough plays at the end to win. I'm going to do everything I can to figure out what we can do to change the results, so it starts with me.
