Just days after they tabled contract talks, the New York Giants relied on running back Saquon Barkley in a 24-16 victory over the Houston Texans. He did not do anything else.

He had a career-high 35 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown in an effort that only further emphasized his reemergence as a top back. He has topped 30 carries in each of the last two seasons.

After undergoing standard postgame treatment, he said his body felt it. You don't know the number of carries. I tried everything I could. They show it when they brought it up. I try to stay locked in the game one play at a time, so I don't pay attention to that. It's what it is. It's my job to be a pro and take care of my body after we got the win.

The running back leads the league in rushing yards and scrimmages. He is set to be a free agent at the end of the season, as he is playing on the fifth year of his contract.

The Giants did not come close to a deal during the bye week, according to a report. Talks have been put on hold until after the season.

The Giants' captain wants to be one of the highest-paid running backs in the league. The running backs who make the most money this season are the upper tier.

"We got into a discussion," he said. I put that in the past. The bye week was the last one. We weren't able to come to an agreement during the bye week, but I'm focused on the rest of the season. When the opportunity comes up again, focus on next week's game against Detroit.

The negotiations that the star running back had with the Giants were over. Even if a deal couldn't be reached, they still spoke highly of him.

Someone would like for something to happen.

I want to be Giant for life, I want my legacy to be in this place, and I have been vocal about that before contracts were even brought up," he said. I've been vocal about that and we'll go from there.

During the bye there would be an ongoing evaluation of the quarterbacks. Jones is looking for a new job.

Durability was the most important question about the season. Jones has never played a full season despite being injured most of the past three years.

There is nothing left to prove.

"No, I feel like I answered all the questions honestly," he said. My focus isn't that of that. My focus is to block out the noise and play for my teammates.

On Sunday, that happened. He ripped off a 29-yard run after starting the day with 29 yards on 12 carries. He had 133 yards on his last 23 runs.

The Giants had a plan against the worst run defense. It was fine with the man.

He enjoys taking over a game and playing well. He played well on Sunday.

This season, the Giants have not shied away from the workload of the player. He has played almost all of their snaps.

They don't seem to have a problem with the workload or the 35 carries.

You tell me The man looked good to me. No, I'm just messing with you. He had what? Thirty-five for 149? He takes a lot of shots. We try to do the best we can to practice him the right way. He was refreshed this week. He had a great week of practicing. He ran the ball to the end zone 80 yards after we gave him the ball at the 20. The things he did during the week carried over.

He is having a great season for us. The man had a good day.

It will get him paid eventually.
