The GOP is not a cult according to Republican Senator Bill Cassidy.
The Louisiana lawmaker told NBC's "Meet the Press" that he will support McConnell as Senate leader even though there may be a debate about ideas within the party.
Chuck Todd asked if maintaining support for the same GOP leaders would create a problem for Republicans.
We are not a cult first of all. Cassidy said that they aren't like, "Okay, there's one person who leads our party." Unless a sitting president happens to be anointed, we won't have a single person anointed. Our lodestar should be a set of principles and ideas. We need to go to that place.

Republicans need to explain to the American voter why they have a better vision for the future of our country, after disappointing results for a GOP that was banking on a red wave.
After several of Donald Trump's hand-selected candidates lost their races, much of the criticism was directed at him. On November 15th, Trump is expected to announce his candidacy for the presidency.
Cassidy was asked on "Meet the Press" if he would support Trump as the GOP nominee in 2024 or if he would cheer for a new candidate.
Who is our next nominee? I think our next candidate will look to the future, not the past, and I think they will win. I think I'll support a candidate who is looking to the future.
The senator said that he didn't think it would come to fruition because we have to be looking to the future.
We should be a party of ideas. Cassidy welcomed that. I think our next candidate will do the same thing.
