Maryland Republican Gov. Larry Hogan criticized former President Donald Trump's influence within the GOP, pointing to the ex-president as the source of the party's lackluster showing in the upcoming mid-term elections.
Hogan told Dana Bash that the definition of insanity was repeating the same thing and hoping for something different if the former president was still the dominant force within the party.
"I think it's the third election in a row that Donald Trump has cost us the race, and it's like three strikes, you're out," Hogan said. The definition of insanity is expecting a different result when doing the same thing over and over again. Donald Trump said we would get tired of winning.
I'm sick of losing. He said that he had done all he could.
The GOP was unsuccessful in regaining a Senate majority in the recent election. While the party had been favored to flip the House by most political observers, control of the lower chamber is still up in the air.
Wes Moore will be the next governor.
Moore, an Army veteran and author, won the Maryland governor's race by a huge margin. Dan Cox was not endorsed by Hogan.
Hogan, who won two elections in a row in Maryland by getting strong support from Republicans and independents, has said he might run for president in four years.
He continued to say that Republicans did not perform well this year and that a lot more people are now singing his praises.
It should have been a big red wave. More than 70 percent of people thought the country was going in the wrong direction because President Biden's approval rating was so low. The governor said that they still didn't do well.
I have said since 2020 that we need to get back to a party that appeals to more people, like I did in Maryland. He said that the lane is much wider now than it was a week ago.
