According to reports, thousands of contractors were laid off this weekend. According to a report by a tech reporter who writes the Substack, Platformer, approximately 4,400 contract employees were laid off byTwitter. The contractors were stripped of access to email and chat, but not warned.

Content moderation and core infrastructure services that keep the site up and running were expected to be impacted by the cuts. The people in content moderation were among the people who were laid off.
