After scoring in both his first two appearances for West Brom, Brandon Thomas-Asante had not scored in nine games since until Saturday's stunning overhead strike

Brandon Thomas-Asante said he would have taken a tap-in after scoring his first goal in almost a year.

The early season signing from Salford City struck his first goal in 10 games to complete his side's 2-0 win overStoke City at The Hawthorns

A third straight win was secured by Thomas- Asante.

These are the moments that make you smile. The young man told the radio station that he likes to give it a try.

I just want to help out the team by keeping the numbers up.

I was thankful just to begin. I was not sure if I would play.

I would have tapped-in. It has been a long time. It went in and I'm very happy about it.

After being brought on as a late substitute by Steve Bruce, Thomas-Asante scored his first goal for the club in the eighth minute of injury time against the Clarets.

He was close to scoring with an overhead kick in last weekend's win at Queens Park Rangers, demonstrating his lack of fear to try things in front of goal.

During the early autumn results which led to Bruce's dismissal and the appointment of Carlos Corberan as head coach, he had to be careful.

Half of his appearances have come from the bench.

Thomas-Asante said he was frustrated that he didn't show what he could do.

Jake and a lot of the other guys have told me to be patient. I had to take my maximum opportunities, so I bided my time.

Corberan 'a football guru'

New Baggies boss Carlos Corberan was as animated on the touchline as ever in Saturday's win over Stoke City
West Brom have won three times in four games under new boss Carlos Corberan (second from left) - more victories than they achieved in the first three months of the season

Thomas-Asante started for the first time under Corberan on Saturday and he says the Spaniard's enthusiasm is shining through.

Thomas-Asante said that he is a football guru. He really likes it. The players love playing for a manager who studies the game the same way they do.

Video clips from a year ago and two years ago were shown to me. The level of detail he goes to is that. He knows a lot about us as players.

The World Cup break may have come at the wrong time for the Seagulls, just as they have found their way out of the Championship's bottom three.

They are just eight points off a play-off place with a game in hand.

With a month to go until their next game, there is a lot of work to be done.

The injury-plagued year that United States international Daryl Dike has suffered has made no difference to the number of players at the World Cup.

Dike made his latest return as a very late substitute on Saturday, and now there is plenty of time to get him fit and ready for the start of the season.

Thomas-Asante said that they would love to keep the winning streak going. It's just about setting us up to have a go at it after the World Cup. We have to continue to work as hard as we have been.

It will be nice to take a break. I am looking forward to spending some time with my little boy in the break, because we have a lot of family here. It will be back to the grind when we return.
