Well done, Lufthansa...
Germany's men's soccer team is the official airline of the World Cup, and it is scheduled to start on June 14.
On November 14, 2022, the airline will be flying players, coaches, and support staff to their training camp. This isn't a charter flight, it's a scheduled flight from Frankfurt to D.C. It is expected that the same plane will fly the team to the World Cup in the middle of next year.
The airline won't just be using A330s. This plane is painted in a special livery. This is how the airline describes it.
Lufthansa is a byword for openness, tolerance, diversity and bringing people together. The company enables its customers from all nations and cultures to connect, and welcomes everyone aboard, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, nationality, identity or sexual orientation. And it is taking this same message – that Diversity Wins! – aloft and around the world, through the special “Fanhansa” livery which it has devised together with illustrator Peter Phobia and applied to its Airbus A330 D-AIKQ.
It's easy to see why the World Cup is the biggest event that the country has hosted. It is hoped that by showcasing what it has to offer, it will be able to elevate its position in the world. It's probably the most controversial country to ever host the world cup.
This is an obvious message and that is great. In the past, Lufthansa has had liveries. They've been more about general enthusiasm for soccer than anything else.
At the World Cup, there will be many human rights and equality related controversies. Many team captains are expected to wear OneLove, which is meant to be against discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer community.
The team was going to wear Human Rights for All training shirts, but they were rejected by the sport's governing body.
A few days ago, the ambassador to the World Cup in Qatar made headlines when he said that gays are welcome in the country, but that they have to accept the rules. Homosexuality is damaging in the mind, he said.
I'm curious to see what happens...
Germany has created a special livery for the A330 that will be used to fly their soccer team to the Middle East. I think we will see a lot of human rights related messages from other countries related to the World Cup.
What do you think about the A 330?
