According to a CNN report, former President Donald Trump is calling Republican allies and telling them to blame Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell.

Many in the party blamed the former president after the Republicans failed to gain control of the Senate.

CNN reported that Trump has been making calls to elected officials and urging them to anger McConnell.

The Alaska Senate race was the focus of the GOP proxy war. The Senate Leadership Fund spent over $5 million on attack ads against Kelly Tshibaka, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump.

The McConnell-aligned group canceled $8.6 million in television ads in Arizona, where Mark Kelly won the election. An aide to Trump told CNN that the president was very critical of that move.

Masters blamed McConnell for his defeat, saying it was "gross incompetence" that caused the senior Republican to stay out of the race.

Sources told CNN that Trump has been talking to everyone he has talked to this week about McConnell.

A person close to Trump told the outlet that he wanted to see more Republicans holdMitch accountable.

The subject of ire for Trump has been McConnell, with the former president calling for him to be replaced as Senate GOP leader.

According to The New York Times reporter, Trump has called McConnell a "piece of shit" and an "old crow" before.

With leadership elections due to take place next week, McConnell appears to have shored up support to get the job but is facing growing discontent within the party, NBC reported.

No Republican senator has said they plan to run against McConnell.

McConnell will become the longest-serving senator in US history if he is re-elected as leader.
