Musk was mocked after he claimed that he was the biggest driver of clicks on other websites.

The new owner of the platform suggested that it was the biggest source of referrals. He was responding to an exchange in which author Matt Taibbi said 10 minutes on "The Joe Rogan Experience" was worth a year's worth of social media use.

A lot of people click on other websites/apps because of their use of the social networking site. Musk said that the internet's biggest click driver was him.

Users pointed out that Facebook was not the leading generator of traffic to other websites.

The product developer said it was wrong. Embarrassingly incorrect. Even if you don't use the search engines, it's wrong. If there are any left, I can feel your ad executives and partnerships people getting worse.

According to a study by Datereportal, 74.1% of clicks from Facebook in January were for referrals.

In terms of traffic, PornHub was the top ranked adult website.

The top 5% of publishers receive less than 1% of their clicks from the platform, according to a 2016 study.

The company never sold itself to advertisers on clicks because they had fewer than other sites, according to a former employee.

Last week, Musk said that the company was losing $4 million a day. Following his takeover, he laid off over 3000 staff.

The roll out of verification for $8 ended in farce as users impersonated major figures such as George Bush and Tony Blair, as well as companies.

The idea of putting the entire website behind a paywall was floated by Musk in his first meeting with employees of the social media company.
