Vanderbilt nabs first SEC win since 2019 (0:26)

Will Sheppard's 8-yard touchdown catch with 36 seconds left was the difference in the game. There is a time and a place.

The Commodores snapped a 26 game SEC losing streak with a 24-21 upset of Kentucky.

The last time the Commodores won a conference game was in October of 2019. The Commodores haven't won a conference game on the road in over a year.

Mike Wright ran 59 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and then threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Will Sheppard in the fourth quarter to lead the way.

Wright was benched for the Wake Forest game after being named the starter to open the season. The freshman was unable to play against Kentucky because of an injury.

"You have a bunch of guys that are fighting," ClarkLea said. Building a program is hard. People that are aligned do the right things. These men are doing that. They got rewarded today.

The Commodores got a touchdown from Ray Davis.

There will be a lot to clean up, but we like to learn from victories. I'm happy for Mike. Mike has had a difficult year. He stuck with his teammates and prepared every week. He has made some important plays for us. He came out with a big run at the end to connect with Will Sheppard and I think he did some nice things to keep us in the game.

Chris Rodriguez ran 72 yards for a touchdown to give Kentucky a 21-17 lead with 5:03 left in the game, but it was too little, too late for the Cats.

Octavious Oxendine had a personal foul that wiped out a Tyrell Ajian pick up. Wright threw a 40-yard pass to Quincy Skinner Jr. on fourth-and-11 to set up the winning touchdown.

Mark Stoops gave them credit. I've been there." I am aware of how hard they have worked. This is a good time for them. I can't put my finger on something. Disgruntled with the way things have been. Everyone is. I'm not doing it with this team.

This is not the first time Kentucky has been defeated by the Commodores. The Commodores ended their losing streak in November of 2003 with a victory over the Cats.
