George Russell caught and passed Max Verstappen to give Mercedes their first win of the year.

Russell took the lead from Verstappen after half a mile.

The race ended with Verstappen finishing fourth.

After losing out to Russell, the world champion fell behind Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz.

It was a great result at the end of the race which set the grid for the Grand Prix.

It was Mercedes' first win of the season and it was the first time Verstappen had been passed since the Austrian Grand Prix.

Verstappen has won all nine grands prix since then, eight of them going to the Red Bull driver.

Verstappen did complain about running over some debris, but Russell's pace was impressive from the beginning.

Everyone else in the top 10 chose softs, and there will be questions as to whether that was a mistake.

Russell followed Verstappen through three corners after he passed Magnussen.

The expectation was that the Dutch would win the race, but that wasn't the case.

Russell stuck with Verstappen, only more than a second behind for two laps, and the Mercedes was close to the Red Bull.

Russell attacked hard, Verstappen defending just as robustly, as the Mercedes driver attacked into Turns One and Four.

He finally got it on lap 15, when he got a run on Verstappen through the first three corners, slipstreamed his down the back straight and passed before Turn Four, like the way Hamilton passed Verstappen for victory in the grand prix last.

Once Russell was in the lead, he moved away and took control of the race, and Verstappen came under threat from Sainz'sFerrari.

Sainz was just as aggressive as Verstappen when he passed into Turn One.

Sainz ran Verstappen wide on the exit of the corner, and the Red Bull's front wing clipped the rear tire of the car.

Hamilton ran out of Turn Four and up the hill into Turn Five to pass Verstappen.

Verstappen said it was more difficult than anticipated. Even though there is not much you can do, we need to try and fix this because we were struggling to keep the tires alive.

It cannot get worse than this. I could have finished fourth with a damaged wing.

Behind Verstappen, team-mate Perez asked Red Bull to swap positions for the extra point that would help his bid to beat Charles Leclerc to second place in the drivers' championship.

Leclerc, who started 10th, finished sixth, followed by Perez, Lando, and Magnussen.

The race was ruined after Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon started.

Ocon pushed Alonso wide at Turn Four as the Spaniard tried to pass on the first lap, damaging his front wing, and then moved very slightly again as Alonso passed down the straight at the end of the lap.

Alonso made clear on the radio that he disapproved of Ocon's driving.

His car caught fire in the pit lane at the end of the race after he dropped down from sixth on the first lap.
