Although the school denied his claims, the Republican lost to the Democratic senator.

The Republican candidate for Colorado governor, who claimed without evidence that public school students were dressing up as animals and communicating with barks and growls, lost on Tuesday to the democrat.

Catalina Lauf, a Republican House candidate in Illinois, lost this week to Bill Foster, a Democrat, after she criticized a CNN reporter.

Ed Thelander, a Republican House candidate in Maine, spread the myth last month before backpedaling and admitting the theory had no basis in reality.

In Ohio, a Trump-backed Republican, J.D. Vance, who promoted the debunked theory, defeated a democrat.

The winner is a far-right Georgia Representative who has supported multiple conspiracy theories.

Lauren Boebert, one of the loudest supporters of the theory, has called it an "identity crisis" that goes beyond the issue of gender identity.

The Michigan GOP co-chair posted on Facebook that kids who identify as furries get a litter box in the bathroom. A video of a Michigan school board meeting where a woman claimed that kids who identify as cat or dog use litter boxes in school bathrooms was posted by a far-right social media account. In one instance, a Kentucky sex education teacher was called a "predator" by the liberals of TikTok, who went on to post similar theories. Even though there was never any evidence that students identified as animals, the theory caught on among far-right candidates and media hosts. Several GOP state officials, including Colorado state Rep. Scott Bottoms, caught on to the idea of "furries." According to an NBC News report, at least 20 right-wing candidates and elected officials spread the debunked theory this year, and that every school district they mentioned denied the claims as untrue. Some school officials have written to parents to assure them that students aren't using litter boxes.

Tangent

Adults who dress up as animals have existed for years. The community that participates in the characterizations of the practice that focus on a perceived sexual element is referred to as fur-mongering. The theory that children are identifying as cats and dogs is related to right-wing policy makers who have introduced legislation that targets identity and gender identity in schools.

Surprising Fact
