An adviser to Donald Trump told The Daily Beast that the former President is expected to announce his candidacy for the presidency next week.
Trump wanted to start his campaign on the night before the election, but aides persuaded him to hold off. Since then, he has promised a "big announcement" on Tuesday, November 15, though his campaign adviser has urged him to wait until after the Georgia runoffs in December.
An adviser told the Daily Beast that he expected Trump to come out swinging. He eviscerated 16 Republicans in 2016 and has kept the entire party under control.
Some attention has been paid to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a potential salvation of the party after the "red wave" Republicans failed to win any seats. While some Republicans across the nation struggled on election night, Ron DeSantis easily won reelection against his opponent with just shy of 60 percent of the vote.
Although he wouldn't be likely to announce his candidacy until after Florida's legislative session ends in May, Ron DeSantis is talking about a presidential run.
The potential for strong GOP challengers may be drawing Trump to make a relatively early announcement.
According to the adviser, there will be challengers. They need to show up ready for war because nothing is off the table.
