A high-tech space system will be launched by the United Nations to track methane pollution. Reporting statistics for the climate change causing gas will be provided by the Methane Alert and Response System. It's going to launch in three years.

Major emission events and methane leaks will be monitored using satellite data. After the international body contacts the governments, companies, and operators that emit the most methane, the data will be made public. It's the first publicly available global system that can connect methane detection to notifications.

The amount of methane entering the atmosphere was monitored by scientists. Scientists collect emission data from world nations, observe emissions from space, take readings from aircraft, towers, and cars, and more in order to estimate emissions.

Data from NASA and the European, German, and Italian space agencies are used in the United Nations MARS initiative. Private satellite operators will be included in the system in the future.

The MARS program is an optimistic effort in the fight against climate pollution because of the consolidation of several systems to detect methane.
