Orlovsky: Super Bowl or bust for Eagles after Quinn trade (1:03)

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired defensive pass-rusher RobertQuinn from the Bears.

9:00 AM ET

By the looks of it, the Philadelphia Eagles might make the 1972 Miami Dolphins sweat this one out.

The Eagles have won their games by an average of 11 points in their first eight games, making them the first team in team history to win eight games in a row. They have yet to trail in the second half of the season and are among the league leaders in a number of statistical categories. They don't have any glaring weaknesses on either side of the ball and have a legitimateMVP candidate in quarterback Jalen Hurts.

The Philadelphia Eagles have the easiest remaining schedule in the National Football League, starting with a home game against the Washington Commanders. They are favored by double-digits. The conversation is heating up about how far the Eagles can go in their pursuit of a perfect season.

McCarthy's return brings back fond memories.

• Can Ravens win out?

• Lot of emotions with Cooks

• Is Nwosu Seattle's best FA?

• Broncos still confident in WRs

It's not easy to win every week. "Our team has done that, and obviously that feels good sitting here, but all we're really concerned about now is how we get better from the last game, how do we get better from our little self-scout again, and then how do we get better in the future?" Right now 8-0 is fine, but it isn't the goal.

Brian Westbrook is a former Eagles running back.

"You just don't want to be over confident," said Westbrook, who gave the nod to this team over the 2004 team that started seven games in a row. It's a big time fear.

How realistic is it for the Eagles to run the table and join the '72 Dolphins, who remained unscathed through the playoffs, as the only perfect regular-season teams in Super Bowl history? There are potentially stumbling blocks.

Let's look more closely.

FPI's outlook for the Eagles

The Eagles have a small chance of winning. The Dallas Cowboys are projected to be a favorite in every game for the rest of the season. The Eagles have won by a touchdown or more in all of their other games. They aren't in a position to be perfect.

The Eagles are heavy favorites over the Commanders on Monday night, but strange outcomes happen every week in the NFL. The mathematical likelihood gets more difficult with each passing week.

The Eagles' expected point margin is third behind the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. The Philadelphia Eagles are rated as the third best team in the league even though they have lost two games.

The Eagles had a soft first-half schedule that featured two teams with winning records: the Vikings and Cowboys. Their other six opponents have a combined record of 15- 35-1.

Sizing up the remaining schedule

Nov. 14 vs. commanders

The Eagles won by a wide margin.

The Eagles defeated the Washington team by a score of 24-8 in the first game of the season. Taylor Heinicke, who went 27 of 36 and threw one interception with no touchdown in a losing effort against Philadelphia last season, will take over as the starter.

The Indianapolis Colts play on Nov.

The Eagles won by 14.

Frank Reich, the Eagles offensive coach, was fired during their Super Bowl run after he was injured in the game. Reich might be able to give some pointers to Nick. The rest of the way, the heavy Philadelphia is favored.

The Green Bay Packers are at home.

The Eagles won by 7.8.

It was hard to adapt to life without Adams. A young group of receivers has been a problem for the quarterback. The Eagles have the best defensive receiving metrics in the league, with a rating of 74, according to a report. The next nearest team is 66.

TheTennesseeTitans

The Eagles won by 9.2.

The first week is when Jordan Davis can come back from injured reserve. His presence could be crucial with the arrival of Henry. With Davis on the field, the Eagles were giving up 3.8 yards per rush compared to 6 yards per rush with him off the field.

The New York Giants are playing a game.

The Eagles were the victors by 7.3.

The Eagles have the easiest closing schedule due to the model seeing the Giants as below average. New York will be able to prove that they are wrong.

The Chicago Bears are playing.

The Eagles won by 9.2.

The Bears offense is scoring 31 points per game over the last three weeks, and quarterback Justin Fields is the reigning offensive player of the week. This could be seen as a more competitive game.

There is a Cowboys game on December 24th.

The Cowboys were the winner by 1.1.

Dallas is favored by a small margin. The Eagles won at home with Rush at quarterback. It is likely that this one will be on the road.

The New Orleans Saints will be playing on January 1st.

The Eagles were the victors by 7.3.

The Eagles hold the Saints' first-round pick, which is currently projected to be a top 10 pick. Philadelphia won more when New Orleans lost.

The Giants are on January 8th.

The Eagles by 10.

If the Eagles are still perfect at this point, do they rest their players for the playoffs or try for a perfect season?

Historic takeaway

The 2004 team held the mark for best start in franchise history, and there are many similarities between this group and them. The '03 team was strong in the trenches, had a pair of top-end corners in Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown, and a pass rush led by C.J.Gardner- Johnson. The addition of Owens made a big difference in the career of Donovan McNabb.

Their seven-game winning streak came to an end when they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the football game, they ate our lunch. They wanted it more than we did. They were out to prove something. Things had been going so well for us that it was almost like things were easy, and then we ran into an opponent that was more physical than us. We weren't up to the challenge.

The Eagles responded to that hiccup, rattling off six straight to move to 13-1 before resting their starters for much of the final two games in advance of the playoffs.

The players and coaches continue to emphasize that it's not how you start, but how you finish that matters.

The job is not done. This football team embraces the idea of never being an arrival and only being a journey.
