Despite being 4-5 and for the first time sitting below.500 nine weeks into the regular season, Tom Brady said Friday he has no regrets about coming back to the Bucs.
Brady said it definitely wasn't. I came back because I wanted to compete and I talked to the team about it and they were excited to have me back. I think when I commit to it, I mean it and I try to give everything I can to this particular opportunity.
Brady, along with a stout defense that saw the return of several key pieces, orchestrated an emotional come-from-behind victory over the Los Angeles Rams last week with the chance to get to.500. Any other division in the NFL would be doomed by that situation.
With the retirement of Drew Brees in New Orleans and the end of Matt Ryan's tenure with the Atlanta Falcons, theNFC South was weakened considerably. Several head-coaching changes have taken place in the division.
For a number of different reasons, we haven't played to the way we're capable of playing. We have a bye a week after this, so this is very important for us. It gives you a chance to evaluate where you are at and I would rather be 5-5 than 3-6. It will take care of that if we win this game.
Through nine games, the Brady-led offense has scored 18 points per game, the lowest of any of the teams. Through the first 10 games of the regular season, the Brady team has had the lowest percentage. It would take 35 points to beat the mark.
Brady said on Thursday that he was concerned about a lack of effort on his show.
What are we able to do? We can control our efforts. Everything has been below the line this year. Brady doesn't think there's anything to be happy about. We're not there from an effort standpoint, execution standpoint, or emotional standpoint. This is a great place to figure it out.
The hope is that the bye week will allow the team to analyze what works and what doesn't for them. Those have been good for Brady. He is 15-5 after a bye week. International games have been good to him as well. He's 2-0 in games played outside the US.
